Mission Execution & Strategic Analysis

KeyLogic provides a breadth and depth of support to the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) including program planning and implementation, energy technology expertise, technology maturation, lifecycle analysis, program analytics, systems engineering and analysis, computational science and engineering, enterprise architecture, knowledge management, acquisition, and communications and outreach.

The Client: The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory that produces technological solutions to America’s energy challenges. For more than 100 years, the laboratory has developed tools and processes to provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy to the American people.

The Challenge: NETL’s current mission is to discover, integrate, and mature technology solutions to enhance the nation’s energy foundation and protect the environment for future generations. Through forward-looking research and technology development, our team of talented and diverse experts provides technology solutions for today and options for tomorrow. The number and complexity of research activities conducted by NETL require a comprehensive set of business processes, energy expertise, and technology solutions to ensure consistent, reliable, and timely information for all NETL stakeholders.

The Solution:KeyLogic provides a breadth and depth of support to the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) including program planning and implementation, energy technology expertise, technology maturation, lifecycle analysis, program analytics, systems engineering and analysis, computational science and engineering, enterprise architecture, knowledge management, acquisition, and communications and outreach.

Technology R&D and Program Management

NETL plans, develops, and delivers energy technology solutions to our nation’s most challenging energy problems. The complexities of managing these services requires a comprehensive understanding of energy, management, technology, and processes to achieve successful results. KeyLogic brings these services to NETL in a true partnership approach, using our Anticipatory Service M

odel to ensure the delivery of high quality products and services across the NETL mission lifecycle in a timely and efficient manner.

KeyLogic impacts in the areas of strategic planning using the Balanced Scorecard framework, acquisition process for administering the NETL FOA procurements, organizational change management, and technical outreach and communications have been recognized by NETL for innovation, quality and professionalism in supporting the portfolio of NETL projects of more than 1,200 active projects representing $6.5B in research.

Business Intelligence and Data Analysis

The services provided by KeyLogic include business and financial analysis, data analytics, economic and environmental modeling, and data visualization. The NETL Visual User Environment (VUE) implementation of the KeyInsight solution allows NETL to integrate disparate project information from multiple portfolios, improve data quality across the R&D programs, access a "single truth" view of projects in a visual format, and deliver rapid responses to complex data-driven queriesOur structured approach to organizational change management and communications also enhanced the conversion from a legacy system to the VUE, and resulted in a significant increase in NETL usage of the tool, due to its intuitive and powerful user interface.

Software and Systems Engineering

KeyLogic’s ability to combine technical and scientific expertise, a structured management approach, deep understanding of NETL client mission and business processes, and a CMMI Level 3 appraised Agile approach to system development has resulted in the delivery of multiple systems in support of the NETL objectives. This approach uses our Business Systems Integration (BSI) framework to ensure the management of all requirements as defined by NETL, development of quality software products, comprehensive testing, and implementations that reduce negative impact on existing processes.

The systems developed include the VUE (as noted above), the Funds Flow Tracking (FFT) system for monitoring and analyzing funds across the NETL acquisition lifecycle, the Planning Data for Approving Travel (PDAT) planning and budget system, and the automation of many functions and workflow processes.

Strategic Energy Analyses

KeyLogic conducts a broad range of energy and environmental analyses for NETL that helps shape technology R&D programs and that helps assess the expected impact from R&D investments. These analyses also inform responsible policymakers spanning the entire economic value chain of energy from resource assessment, extraction, and transport to conversion, distribution and end use. We apply scientific, engineering, business, economic, energy market, and policy-related disciplines to issues related to the NETL mission. We also practice Life Cycle Analysis to evaluate the environmental and economic consequences resulting from a process, product , or a particular activity over its entire life cycle, extending from the acquisition of raw materials, through productive use, and finally to either recycling or disposal.
